Notified about the coming course since last week.
Excited about it but could not help feeling a bit apprehensive.
It has been ages.
Ages.
Couldn't find my trusty old pair of hiking shoes.
But found other 'accesories' - knee guards, soccer socks, elbow socks, gloves
The pair of Kappa sneakers I used to wear to class in Tokyo is already on the 'uzur' side.
So bought a new pair at Jusco (at 30% discount during the Chinese New Year sale)
Had been advised to bring 2 pairs of suitable footwear since we'll be rafting.
I had a terrible terrible experience of rafting back when I was still a student.
But the OBS experience in 2001 had changed that - thanks to having a good partner, Shahri, who was also a good teacher.
He helped me overcame my fear of the water - at least while having my life vest on.
Our kayak capsized when we were trying to help colleagues whose kayak was capsized.
They said I looked funny being totally wet yet still with the a'la Phua Chu Kang yellow hard helmet intact on my head.
(I didn't bring any cap, it was hot and the helmet - found in the sea - seemed to help a bit with lessening direct sunlight into my eyes)
I didn't care much for how I looked.
I was happy enough that I didn't panic and managed to climb up the "temporary raft" of kayaks.
I didn't know how to swim - and I already had a terrible experience of panicking when my kayak capsized back when I was still a student.
But Shahri helped guiding me to be calm, not to panic when we capsized and to hold onto our capsized kayak as we 'berenang-renang itik" towards the temporary raft formation made by others (there were three or four capsized kayaks at that time due to strong currents in the sea)
I used to enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, jungle trekking.
There's something about being near the nature that makes one could not help feeling oh-so-small and humble.
There's something about being near the nature that makes one really aware that we are only standing in the presence of something much larger than our little selves.
And it's true - there's nothing like being in difficult situations that bring out the true colors of people.
It's going to be an interesting course, insya Allah...

Salam.
i tak suka outdoor:(- panas, nyamuk, kotor heheh (mengada:))
if ada team building activity sgt la terpaksa- nak ja escape hehe
Mak: Kursus anjuran & diatur pejabat. Sessi solat malam tak masuk dalam tentatif program, tapi ada solat (subuh & maghrib) berjamaah dan kuliah subuh sbg sebahagian drpd pengisian rohani...
Erma: Saya suka aktiviti lasak masa dulu-dulu.
